You know, he's got the camera rolling all the time, but the camera doesn't really tell you how to tell the truth about your subject.I've often thought about the fact that Cormac McCarthy spent most of his life in the kind of community that he writes about so much in Blood Meridian. In fact, if he has any passion for the written word at all, it is probably in being a member of that community. That is probably one of the reasons why he has become so famous as a novelist.And if the Blood Meridian author can just get his feet wet in journalism, he will discover that the writer is in very little danger. In fact, there are wh ole companies that were founded on the model of hiring individuals who have shown a willingness to write about their passions, and if they have no passion for the written word at all, then they're hired anyway.One other essay topic that I can think of is the novels of John Steinbeck. One of the great thing about his novels is that each one seems to be told with such eagerness that the reader wants to get right into the middle of the action and read about the story that is happening at the time.
